Homemade Laundry Soap…

My mom makes homemade laundry soap which is fantastic. So I decided rather than continuing to buy the expensive natural soaps I would just make my own. : ) The recipe came from my mom’s blog,  Nadine’s Nook. It works the same as any liquid laundry soap and smells really good.

HOMEMADE LAUNDRY SOAP

1/3 bar of Fels~Naptha soap

1/2 cup of washing soda

1/2 cup of borax

Grate the bar of soap with a cheese grater.  Fill a pot with 4 cups of water and add the grated soap.  Cook over medium-high heat until melted.  Remove from heat and add the washing soda and borax, stir to dissolve.  Have a large plastic bucket with 1 and 3/4 gallons of hot water ready.  Add your melted soap into the bucket with the hot water, stir to combine.  Let the soap sit undisturbed overnight.  The next morning it will be a firm gel.  Using either a large wooden spoon or your hands, mix it up…it will still be somewhat lumpy after mixing it.  Transfer some of your soap into an old laundry detergent container that has been washed.  Do not fill it all the way up, as you want a bit of room in the container so that you can shake it before using.

For a front loading washing machine use 1/2 cup per load.  For a top loading machine, use 1 cup.

I hope you get a chance to try it! : )
